Method, not a pitch
How These Auto Loan Estimates Work
EZ Auto Loan Calculator is an independent site. It is not a bank, a credit union, or a dealer. The six tools estimate a typical U.S. installment auto loan in dollars. They run in your browser from the numbers you type. Nothing here is an offer, a pre-qualification, or a pull of your credit file.
What every loan tool uses
The payment tools use a fixed amortizing installment. The amount financed is the vehicle price minus down payment minus trade-in, except on the down-payment comparison, where you fold a trade-in into the down payment if you want that effect. APR is the yearly rate you enter. The term is a number of months. At 0 percent APR, the payment is the principal split evenly across the term. An amortization schedule lists that split each month and can apply an extra principal amount you enter. A walkthrough is in how to calculate an auto loan payment.
Affordability work starts from a monthly payment you can budget and works back to a maximum price. It does not collect income or a debt-to-income ratio. Lease-versus-buy uses the same loan formula on the buy side and the advertised lease payment you enter on the lease side. It does not invent a money factor or a residual.
What the estimates leave out
Sales tax, title, registration, documentation fees, GAP, warranties, and insurance are not added unless you put those dollars into a price field. That choice is explained in whether taxes and fees are included in a car loan. Live bank rates are not fetched. Credit tiers are not guessed. Paying the loan off early changes the interest; the totals assume you make every scheduled payment.
Limits that stop a typing slip
The calculators will not run a vehicle price above $500,000, an APR above 40 percent, or a loan term longer than 96 months. The lease term stops at 60 months. A monthly budget on the affordability page, and an extra principal amount on the amortization page, stop at $25,000. Those caps keep a stray extra zero from producing a nonsense payment. They are not a statement about the largest loan in the United States.
Who this site is for
The copy and the formulas are written for a U.S. dealer-style auto loan: price in USD, APR, term in months, down payment, and trade-in. They are not written for U.K. personal contract purchase, and they do not apply Canadian sales-tax rules. A Canadian shopper can still use the installment math if the loan is a simple amortizing credit in dollars. The result is still not a quote from a lender.
If you want the payment, start on the Auto Loan Calculator. If you want to see how cash down moves the payment, use the down payment comparison and the guide on how much to put down.
